It was as robust as a Nokia back then! I miss those days. Phones now might be beautiful...but god they are fragile.

I remember HPs shittass attempt to turn themselves in to Apple with Palm. It would have worked too, if only idiots hadn't been behind the planning an execution.

My mom has a SONY Clie' laying around that has Palm-licensed tech. Does that count?

I actually used a Handspring Visor for about a year (2010-2011) that I paid $2.50 for. Threw in some AAAs and got it to sync with my Windows 7 PC.

I didn't have a smartphone at the time so I used it as a calendar and note-taking app. Graffiti took some adjusting to but I figured it out pretty well, except that one time I accidentally wrote "rate" and the device interpreted it as "rape"...in front of a prospective employer.

I disagree. I dropped my Visor face-first and the LCD cracked while my Galaxy S III has taken multiple hits to its face without complaint.

Anything other than Apple are another story. I had a Samsung Focus and like you, it never cracked despite the dropping on the floor abuse until the day it got frozen in my pocket by the winter and the screen cracked as soon as I dropped it...

I was talking to a very young coworker about this yesterday. Told him how we had smartphones back in the day, but they didn't make calls, have wifi, have any sort of reasonable storage, and you usually needed a cable to sync them, and syncing was fraught with disaster at times.

I don't miss those days.

aww yeah, I had one of the first color ones when they came out. That thing was awesome. Then I went to a pocket PC for a few years. Good stuff.

I disagree. My Palm pilot died from a small drop. My Razr HD has taken a TON of LARGE drops and it still works great. Like it has fallen of the top of my car while driving (I'm an idiot and forget it's there after I finish biking). It is still fine.

I think the first few generations were. I got it on their way down when they started to cheapen them to sell to more people.
